11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Salvador J. Castillo for his many contributions to the
44 Cameron County Veterans Services Office; and
55 WHEREAS, Salvador Castillo is an exemplary citizen who is
66 widely respected and admired in his community for his service on
77 behalf of his country and on behalf of his fellow veterans; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Brownsville, Mr. Castillo served in
99 the United States Air Force as a member of the 43rd Security
1010 Forces Squadron in Pope Airfield, Fort Bragg, North Carolina;
1111 after four years of service, he joined the Army National Guard as
1212 an Intel Analyst before returning to civilian life; he then
1313 worked as a Child Protective Services Investigator, and in 2010,
1414 he was hired as the assistant veterans service officer for
1515 Cameron County; he was appointed the director a year later; and
1616 WHEREAS, As director, Mr. Castillo significantly expanded
1717 the resources and care available for veterans in the community;
1818 while obtaining a master's degree in Public Administration, he
1919 developed such intergovernmental projects as a veterans' court
2020 and Cadets for Vets, and he worked on projects with the City of
2121 Brownsville, the Texas Veterans Commission, and the Department
2222 of Veterans Affairs; Mr. Castillo has been instrumental in the
2323 passage of several pieces of legislation that expanded services
2424 and support for Texas veterans, including Senate Bill 456; and
2525 WHEREAS, His numerous accolades include a Certificate of
2626 Honor from the Veterans County Service Officers Association of
2727 Texas and the Officer Appreciation Award from the Texas Veterans
2828 Commission; it is truly fitting that he receive special
2929 recognition for his outstanding leadership and his many
3030 accomplishments in the field of veterans services; now,
3131 therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3333 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Salvador J.
3434 Castillo on his exceptional achievements and his dedication to
3535 serving veterans in the Lone Star State; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
