| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | recognize Salvador J. Castillo for his many contributions to the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Cameron County Veterans Services Office; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Salvador Castillo is an exemplary citizen who is |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | widely respected and admired in his community for his service on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | behalf of his country and on behalf of his fellow veterans; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Brownsville, Mr. Castillo served in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the United States Air Force as a member of the 43rd Security |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Forces Squadron in Pope Airfield, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | after four years of service, he joined the Army National Guard as |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | an Intel Analyst before returning to civilian life; he then |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | worked as a Child Protective Services Investigator, and in 2010, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | he was hired as the assistant veterans service officer for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Cameron County; he was appointed the director a year later; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, As director, Mr. Castillo significantly expanded |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the resources and care available for veterans in the community; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | while obtaining a master's degree in Public Administration, he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | developed such intergovernmental projects as a veterans' court |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and Cadets for Vets, and he worked on projects with the City of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Brownsville, the Texas Veterans Commission, and the Department |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of Veterans Affairs; Mr. Castillo has been instrumental in the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | passage of several pieces of legislation that expanded services |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and support for Texas veterans, including Senate Bill 456; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, His numerous accolades include a Certificate of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Honor from the Veterans County Service Officers Association of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Texas and the Officer Appreciation Award from the Texas Veterans |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Commission; it is truly fitting that he receive special |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | recognition for his outstanding leadership and his many |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | accomplishments in the field of veterans services; now, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Salvador J. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Castillo on his exceptional achievements and his dedication to |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | serving veterans in the Lone Star State; and, be it further |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
