55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Lena Coleman-Wilson, who died September
77 8, 2021, at the age of 91; and
88 WHEREAS, Lena Coleman-Wilson was born August 31, 1930, in
99 Seguin, Texas; she graduated from Homer G. Phillips School of
1010 Nursing in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she received her license
1111 as a registered nurse; after a six-year career in nursing, she
1212 earned a degree in business from Oregon State University; and
1313 WHEREAS, Resourceful and innovative, Lena became an
1414 accomplished entrepreneur; among her many notable endeavors, she
1515 served as a job developer and counselor, and her contributions to
1616 her community through her work included writing proposals and
1717 creating programs to assist female heads of households,
1818 displaced homemakers, and blind and handicapped employees; she
1919 also initiated developments in real estate, community centers,
2020 and scholarship foundations, and she eventually founded her own
2121 consulting business; and
2222 WHEREAS, Lena was a woman of courage and strength who lived
2323 her life in service unto others; her numerous accolades for her
2424 community leadership included her selection as one of 85 "Women
2525 of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts of America and a number of
2626 lifetime achievement awards; as dedicated to her faith as she was
2727 to her community, she served as a teacher and leader at Saint John
2828 First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi for 30 years; and
2929 WHEREAS, Lena was dearly loved and cherished by her
3030 husband, Frank Alfred Wilson Sr., and by her stepchildren and an
3131 abundance of other family members; her giving and compassionate
3232 spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those she left
3333 behind; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3535 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
3636 condolences to the bereaved family of Lena Coleman-Wilson; and,
3737 be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Lena Coleman-Wilson.
