5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Lena Coleman-Wilson, who died September |
---|
7 | 7 | | 8, 2021, at the age of 91; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Lena Coleman-Wilson was born August 31, 1930, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Seguin, Texas; she graduated from Homer G. Phillips School of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Nursing in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she received her license |
---|
11 | 11 | | as a registered nurse; after a six-year career in nursing, she |
---|
12 | 12 | | earned a degree in business from Oregon State University; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Resourceful and innovative, Lena became an |
---|
14 | 14 | | accomplished entrepreneur; among her many notable endeavors, she |
---|
15 | 15 | | served as a job developer and counselor, and her contributions to |
---|
16 | 16 | | her community through her work included writing proposals and |
---|
17 | 17 | | creating programs to assist female heads of households, |
---|
18 | 18 | | displaced homemakers, and blind and handicapped employees; she |
---|
19 | 19 | | also initiated developments in real estate, community centers, |
---|
20 | 20 | | and scholarship foundations, and she eventually founded her own |
---|
21 | 21 | | consulting business; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Lena was a woman of courage and strength who lived |
---|
23 | 23 | | her life in service unto others; her numerous accolades for her |
---|
24 | 24 | | community leadership included her selection as one of 85 "Women |
---|
25 | 25 | | of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts of America and a number of |
---|
26 | 26 | | lifetime achievement awards; as dedicated to her faith as she was |
---|
27 | 27 | | to her community, she served as a teacher and leader at Saint John |
---|
28 | 28 | | First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi for 30 years; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Lena was dearly loved and cherished by her |
---|
30 | 30 | | husband, Frank Alfred Wilson Sr., and by her stepchildren and an |
---|
31 | 31 | | abundance of other family members; her giving and compassionate |
---|
32 | 32 | | spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those she left |
---|
33 | 33 | | behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
---|
36 | 36 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Lena Coleman-Wilson; and, |
---|
37 | 37 | | be it further |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

39 | 39 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
