| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly a |

| 3 | 3 | | cause for celebration, and August Pahmiyer marked this special |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | milestone on August 26, 2021; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Born in Karnes City in 1921, Mr. Pahmiyer answered |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | his nation's call to duty during World War II, joining the United |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | States Army in 1942; he served with the 681st and 821st Tank |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Destroyer Battalions and with the U.S. Army Military Police; in the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | course of his duties, he participated in the Allied invasion of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Europe, going ashore at Omaha Beach in Normandy 20 days after |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | D-Day, and serving as a rifleman and supply truck driver until the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | surrender of Nazi Germany in May 1945; in recognition of his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | valiant service in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Central Europe, he was awarded four Bronze Stars; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Pahmiyer settled in Brenham and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | worked at Appel Motors for nearly four decades; he and his wife, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | former Ella Schulz, shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 32 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | years before her passing in 1978; his family also includes his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | daughter, Janet Long, and stepson, Clarence Gerke; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In commemoration of his centennial birthday, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Washington County designated August 26 as August Pahmiyer Day, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | which included a Drive-by and Wave event and a gathering at |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Brenham; in addition, a tribute by the Patriot Guard Riders of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | East Texas took place at the Atria Copeland senior living |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | community in Tyler, where Mr. Pahmiyer has resided since earlier |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in 2021; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, August Pahmiyer has earned the admiration and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | affection of countless people over the past century, and it is |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | truly a pleasure to honor him for having joined an elite group of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Texans who can look back on 100 years of meaningful achievements; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate August |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Pahmiyer on his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best |

| 36 | 36 | | wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
