| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Carlos David Ortiz, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | August 31, 2021, at the age of 64; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An esteemed Texan, David Ortiz was a dedicated |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | peace officer, and he inspired his friends, colleagues, and loved |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ones through his generous spirit, his love of family, and his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | devotion to his community; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, David was born in Galveston on July 15, 1957; in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | his younger years, he worked as a trucker, a mechanic, and a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | firefighter, and in 1996, he began a career in law enforcement; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | after working for several agencies, he was honored to serve as a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | member of the Colorado County Sheriff's Office in Columbus, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, David was a loving husband to Olga Ortiz, and he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | was blessed with three children, Vanessa, Abigail, and Donovan, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and with two stepchildren, Kris Rivera and Kristi Hahn; his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | grandchildren, Ayden Ortiz, Cordae Crist, and Kenzie Hahn were a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | source of great pride for him; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, David Ortiz had a heart for public service, and he |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | was a cherished friend and mentor to many; he will long be |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | remembered with respect and admiration by all who were privileged |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Carlos David Ortiz; and, be |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 32 | 32 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
