| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

| 6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | friends of Michael Emile Mahfood of Tyler, who passed away on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | September 21, 2021, at the age of 72; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Emile and Maryrose Mahfood, Michael |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Mahfood was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 21, 1949, and grew |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | up in Longview with four siblings, Philip, Rosemary, Michele, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | David; he married his sweetheart, Suzann Mahfood, in 1971, in a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ceremony conducted at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in Tyler; they were blessed with five children, Emily, Benjamin, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Teresa, Sara-Michael, and Matthew; with the passing years, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Mr. Mahfood experienced the joy of welcoming into their |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | treasured family 16 grandchildren, Hayden, Caraline, Elizabeth, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Eli, Gianna, Peter, Felicity, Isabelle, Cecilia, Thomas, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Camilla, Jacob, Luke, Ann-Michael, Bryson, and Landon; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mahfood owned First Mark Trading from the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | early 1980s until 1992; a brilliant entrepreneur, he went on to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | establish GroupM7, the first website design company in the area, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | when the Internet was still in its infancy; he used his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | commanding presence to his advantage in the business world, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | although he had a stubborn streak, he was kind and patient with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his loved ones, including those he adopted as honorary family |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | members; he was also generous in sharing his time, talents, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | resources with others; from 2012 to 2017, he chaired the finance |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | board of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler, and he then served for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | four years on the board of the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Foundation; he was elected to the board of Holy Apostles College |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and Seminary, and he sponsored the Michael and Suzann Mahfood |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Family Scholarship Fund, which supports Catholic education; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Michael Mahfood brings great |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | of Michael Emile Mahfood and extend sincere condolences to his |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | loved ones; and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|---|
