55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and
77 friends of Michael Emile Mahfood of Tyler, who passed away on
88 September 21, 2021, at the age of 72; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Emile and Maryrose Mahfood, Michael
1010 Mahfood was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 21, 1949, and grew
1111 up in Longview with four siblings, Philip, Rosemary, Michele, and
1212 David; he married his sweetheart, Suzann Mahfood, in 1971, in a
1313 ceremony conducted at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
1414 in Tyler; they were blessed with five children, Emily, Benjamin,
1515 Teresa, Sara-Michael, and Matthew; with the passing years,
1616 Mr. Mahfood experienced the joy of welcoming into their
1717 treasured family 16 grandchildren, Hayden, Caraline, Elizabeth,
1818 Eli, Gianna, Peter, Felicity, Isabelle, Cecilia, Thomas,
1919 Camilla, Jacob, Luke, Ann-Michael, Bryson, and Landon; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Mahfood owned First Mark Trading from the
2121 early 1980s until 1992; a brilliant entrepreneur, he went on to
2222 establish GroupM7, the first website design company in the area,
2323 when the Internet was still in its infancy; he used his
2424 commanding presence to his advantage in the business world, and
2525 although he had a stubborn streak, he was kind and patient with
2626 his loved ones, including those he adopted as honorary family
2727 members; he was also generous in sharing his time, talents, and
2828 resources with others; from 2012 to 2017, he chaired the finance
2929 board of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler, and he then served for
3030 four years on the board of the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances
3131 Foundation; he was elected to the board of Holy Apostles College
3232 and Seminary, and he sponsored the Michael and Suzann Mahfood
3333 Family Scholarship Fund, which supports Catholic education; and
3434 WHEREAS, While the death of Michael Mahfood brings great
3535 sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that
3636 will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
3737 therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3939 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life
4040 of Michael Emile Mahfood and extend sincere condolences to his
4141 loved ones; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4444 this day, it do so in memory of Michael Emile Mahfood.
