99 AN ACT
1010 relating to the membership of the Texas Transportation Commission.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 201.051(b), Transportation Code, is
1313 amended to read as follows:
1414 (b) The members shall be appointed to reflect the diverse
1515 geographic regions and population groups of this state, including:
1616 (1) at least one [. One] member who must reside in a
1717 rural area and be a registered voter of a county with a population
1818 of less than 150,000; and
1919 (2) at least one member who:
2020 (A) must reside and be a registered voter in a
2121 county bordering the United Mexican States; and
2222 (B) may not be the same member as described by
2323 Subdivision (1).
2424 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act in the
2525 qualifications of members of the Texas Transportation Commission do
2626 not affect the entitlement of a member serving on the commission
2727 immediately before the effective date of this Act to continue to
2828 serve for the remainder of the member's term. As the terms of
2929 commission members expire, the governor shall appoint or reappoint
3030 a member who has the qualifications required for a member under
3131 Section 201.051, Transportation Code, as amended by this Act.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
