9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 32, Election Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 32.116 to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | Sec. 32.116. REQUIRED TRAINING RELATED TO ACCEPTING VOTERS |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHO IDENTIFY AS TRANSGENDER. Each program, standard, or material |
---|
14 | 14 | | for any training developed under this subchapter must include: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (1) guidance for election workers to accept photo |
---|
16 | 16 | | identification that may not align with a person's presenting gender |
---|
17 | 17 | | expression or identity; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | (2) information about voters who identify as |
---|
19 | 19 | | transgender and their historical disenfranchisement. |
---|
20 | 20 | | SECTION 2. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by |
---|
21 | 21 | | adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
---|
22 | 22 | | (e) An indication of gender on a form of identification |
---|
23 | 23 | | described by this section that does not align with the gender |
---|
24 | 24 | | expression or identity of the person seeking to vote does not |
---|
25 | 25 | | invalidate the form of identification for the purpose of accepting |
---|
26 | 26 | | a voter for voting. |
---|
27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
