55 relating to the issuance of specialty license plates for certain
66 classroom teachers and retired classroom teachers; imposing fees.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
99 is amended by adding Sections 504.517 and 504.518 to read as
1010 follows:
1111 Sec. 504.517. CLASSROOM TEACHERS. (a) In this section,
1212 "classroom teacher" has the meaning assigned by Section 5.001,
1313 Education Code.
1414 (b) The department shall issue specialty license plates for
1515 classroom teachers with at least 15 years of service teaching
1616 public school students. The license plates must include the words
1717 "Texas Teacher" and depict a Texas public education logo. The
1818 department shall design the license plates in consultation with the
1919 Texas Education Agency.
2020 (c) The fee for issuance of the license plates is $10.
2121 Sec. 504.518. RETIRED CLASSROOM TEACHERS. (a) In this
2222 section, "retired classroom teacher" means a person who:
2323 (1) was formerly employed as a classroom teacher, as
2424 that term is defined by Section 5.001, Education Code; and
2525 (2) is a retiree of the Teacher Retirement System of
2626 Texas.
2727 (b) The department shall issue specialty license plates for
2828 retired classroom teachers with at least 20 years of service
2929 teaching public school students. The license plates must include
3030 the words "Retired Texas Teacher" and depict a Texas public
3131 education logo. The department shall design the license plates in
3232 consultation with the Texas Education Agency.
3333 (c) The fee for issuance of the license plates is $5.
3434 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
