10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
---|
12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 21.0445 to read as follows: |
---|
13 | 13 | | Sec. 21.0445. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING |
---|
14 | 14 | | EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION |
---|
15 | 15 | | CERTIFICATE. (a) The board shall propose rules under this |
---|
16 | 16 | | subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs for |
---|
17 | 17 | | a person seeking: |
---|
18 | 18 | | (1) a certification to teach courses in marketing; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) a certification to teach courses in health science |
---|
20 | 20 | | technology. |
---|
21 | 21 | | (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs |
---|
22 | 22 | | under this section, the board shall ensure that: |
---|
23 | 23 | | (1) each program requires at least 200 hours of |
---|
24 | 24 | | coursework or training; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | (2) persons certified under the programs may not be |
---|
26 | 26 | | issued additional certifications based on the person's performance |
---|
27 | 27 | | on an examination prescribed under Section 21.048. |
---|
28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall |
---|
29 | 29 | | propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and |
---|
30 | 30 | | renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for |
---|
31 | 31 | | certification in marketing education and certification in health |
---|
32 | 32 | | science technology education. |
---|
33 | 33 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
34 | 34 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
35 | 35 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
36 | 36 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
37 | 37 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
