55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to creating abbreviated educator preparation programs for
88 certification in marketing education and certification in health
99 science technology education.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 21.0445 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 21.0445. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING
1414 EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
1515 CERTIFICATE. (a) The board shall propose rules under this
1616 subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs for
1717 a person seeking:
1818 (1) a certification to teach courses in marketing; and
1919 (2) a certification to teach courses in health science
2020 technology.
2121 (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs
2222 under this section, the board shall ensure that:
2323 (1) each program requires at least 200 hours of
2424 coursework or training; and
2525 (2) persons certified under the programs may not be
2626 issued additional certifications based on the person's performance
2727 on an examination prescribed under Section 21.048.
2828 SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall
2929 propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and
3030 renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for
3131 certification in marketing education and certification in health
3232 science technology education.
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3434 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3535 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3636 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3737 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
