55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to an early childhood literacy plan for students enrolled
88 in a dual language program in a public school.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 11.185(c), Education Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 (c) Each plan adopted under Subsection (a) shall [may] set
1313 separate goals for students in a bilingual education [or special
1414 language] program using a dual language immersion/one-way or
1515 two-way program model under Subchapter B, Chapter 29, including
1616 goals for student achievement in both program languages.
1717 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
1818 school year.
1919 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2020 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2121 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2222 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2323 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
