55 relating to procedures for the issuance of personal identification
66 certificates to certain persons 65 years of age or older whose
77 driver's licenses are surrendered.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 521.101, Transportation Code, is amended
1010 by adding Subsection (n) to read as follows:
1111 (n) The department shall adopt procedures to allow a person
1212 who is 65 years of age or older and possesses a driver's license
1313 that is compliant with the federal REAL ID program to apply for a
1414 personal identification certificate online or by phone if the
1515 person surrenders the person's driver's license in a manner
1616 prescribed by the department. The procedures:
1717 (1) must be in compliance with federal guidelines
1818 governing the issuance of identity documents; and
1919 (2) may require the person issued a personal
2020 identification certificate to update information previously
2121 provided to the department under Section 521.142.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
