9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.002(c-3), Education Code, is amended |
---|
11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | (c-3) In adopting the essential knowledge and skills for the |
---|
13 | 13 | | technology applications curriculum for kindergarten through grade |
---|
14 | 14 | | eight, the State Board of Education shall adopt essential knowledge |
---|
15 | 15 | | and skills that include coding, including coding for video games, |
---|
16 | 16 | | computer programming, computational thinking, and cybersecurity. |
---|
17 | 17 | | The State Board of Education shall review and revise, as needed, the |
---|
18 | 18 | | essential knowledge and skills of the technology applications |
---|
19 | 19 | | curriculum every five years to ensure the curriculum: |
---|
20 | 20 | | (1) is relevant to student education; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | (2) aligns with current or emerging professions. |
---|
22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
