66 AN ACT
77 relating to the essential knowledge and skills of the technology
88 applications curriculum for certain public school students.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 28.002(c-3), Education Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (c-3) In adopting the essential knowledge and skills for the
1313 technology applications curriculum for kindergarten through grade
1414 eight, the State Board of Education shall adopt essential knowledge
1515 and skills that include coding, including coding for video games,
1616 computer programming, computational thinking, and cybersecurity.
1717 The State Board of Education shall review and revise, as needed, the
1818 essential knowledge and skills of the technology applications
1919 curriculum every five years to ensure the curriculum:
2020 (1) is relevant to student education; and
2121 (2) aligns with current or emerging professions.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
