77 relating to protection from employment retaliation for reporting
88 the existence of certain policies, patterns, or practices of a
99 local entity or institution of higher education related to
1010 immigration.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 752, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 752.0535 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 752.0535. RETALIATION PROHIBITED FOR REPORTING
1515 VIOLATION. A local entity or institution of higher education may
1616 not suspend or terminate the employment of, or take other adverse
1717 personnel action against, a public employee who in good faith
1818 reports to an appropriate law enforcement authority the existence
1919 of a policy, pattern, or practice of the employing entity or
2020 institution that violates Section 752.053.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2222 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2323 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2424 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2525 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
