77 relating to the authority of the Texas A&M Forest Service to
88 identify urban areas with a canopy coverage disparity and plant
99 trees in those areas.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 88, Education Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 88.1105 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 88.1105. PLANTING TREES IN URBAN AREAS WITH CANOPY
1414 COVERAGE DISPARITY. (a) The Texas A&M Forest Service may partner
1515 with a political subdivision to identify an area in an urban area
1616 with a disparity in canopy coverage in comparison to other areas in
1717 the same political subdivision.
1818 (b) On identification of an area under Subsection (a), the
1919 Texas A&M Forest Service, in collaboration with the political
2020 subdivision, may plant trees in the area.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2222 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2323 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2424 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2525 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
