| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 88, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 88.1105 to read as follows: |

| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 88.1105. PLANTING TREES IN URBAN AREAS WITH CANOPY |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | COVERAGE DISPARITY. (a) The Texas A&M Forest Service may partner |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with a political subdivision to identify an area in an urban area |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | with a disparity in canopy coverage in comparison to other areas in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the same political subdivision. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (b) On identification of an area under Subsection (a), the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Texas A&M Forest Service, in collaboration with the political |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | subdivision, may plant trees in the area. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
