55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study of seawater desalination processes used in
88 Israel and the feasibility of using similar processes in Texas.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "center" means the
1111 Texas State University Meadows Center for Water and the
1212 Environment.
1313 SECTION 2. STUDY. (a) The center shall conduct a study of
1414 seawater desalination processes used in Israel.
1515 (b) In conducting the study, the center shall:
1616 (1) identify the similarities and differences between
1717 the desalination processes used in Israel and the desalination
1818 processes used in this state;
1919 (2) determine the feasibility and practicability of
2020 using the processes used in Israel for the desalination of water
2121 from the Gulf of Mexico; and
2222 (3) provide any necessary information and
2323 recommendations for the use in this state of the desalination
2424 processes used in Israel.
2525 SECTION 3. REPORT. Not later than January 1, 2025, the
2626 center shall report the results of the study conducted under this
2727 Act to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the
2828 house of representatives, and the standing committees of the senate
2929 and the house of representatives that have jurisdiction over
3030 natural resources.
3131 SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires February 1, 2025.
3232 SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September
3333 1, 2023.
