| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 29.042(c), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (c) The commissioner shall set aside an amount set by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | appropriation [not to exceed $30 million from the total amount of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | funds appropriated] for each state fiscal year to fund the program |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | under this section. For each state fiscal year, the total amount |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | provided for student grants under Subsection (a) may not exceed the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | amount set aside by the commissioner under this subsection. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Section 29.050, Education Code, is repealed. |

| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
