| 7 | 7 | | relating to establishing residency for purposes of admission into |

| 8 | 8 | | public schools. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.001(c-2), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (c-2) A person who establishes residency as provided by |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Subsection (c-1) shall provide to the school district proof of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | residence in the district's attendance zone not later than the 90th |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | [10th] day after the arrival date specified in the order described |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | by that subsection. For purposes of this subsection, "residence" |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | includes residence in a military temporary lodging facility. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school year. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
