55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the extension of a driver's license suspension or
88 disqualification following certain convictions.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 521.343(c), Transportation Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (c) If the license holder is convicted of operating a motor
1313 vehicle while the license to operate a motor vehicle is cancelled,
1414 disqualified, suspended, revoked, or denied, the period is extended
1515 for 90 days [the same term as the original suspension or
1616 disqualification], in addition to any penalty assessed under this
1717 chapter or Chapter 522.
1818 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
1919 to a determination of suspension or disqualification made by the
2020 Department of Public Safety on or after the effective date of this
2121 Act. A determination made before the effective date of this Act is
2222 governed by the law in effect when the determination was made, and
2323 the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
