| 5 | 5 | | relating to the display of the national motto in public school and |

| 6 | 6 | | institution of higher education classrooms. |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 1.004, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (d) A classroom teacher at a public elementary or secondary |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | school or a teacher or professor at an institution of higher |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | education as defined by Section 61.003 may not be prohibited from |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | displaying in a classroom a poster or framed copy of the national |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | motto that meets the requirements of this section. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | school year. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
