44 AN ACT
55 relating to the display of the national motto in public school and
66 institution of higher education classrooms.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 1.004, Education Code, is amended by
99 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1010 (d) A classroom teacher at a public elementary or secondary
1111 school or a teacher or professor at an institution of higher
1212 education as defined by Section 61.003 may not be prohibited from
1313 displaying in a classroom a poster or framed copy of the national
1414 motto that meets the requirements of this section.
1515 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
1616 school year.
1717 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1818 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1919 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2020 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2121 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
