44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to reimbursement for jury service.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 61.001(a), Government Code, is amended
99 to read as follows:
1010 (a) Except as provided by Subsection (c), a person who
1111 reports for jury service in response to the process of a court is
1212 entitled to receive as reimbursement for travel and other expenses
1313 an amount:
1414 (1) not less than $20 [$6] for the first day or
1515 fraction of the first day the person is in attendance in court in
1616 response to the process and discharges the person's duty for that
1717 day; and
1818 (2) not less than $58 [$40] for each day or fraction of
1919 each day the person is in attendance in court in response to the
2020 process after the first day and discharges the person's duty for
2121 that day.
2222 SECTION 2. Section 61.0015(a), Government Code, is amended
2323 to read as follows:
2424 (a) The state shall reimburse a county:
2525 (1) $14 for the reimbursement paid under Section
2626 61.001(a)(1) to a person who reports for jury service in response to
2727 the process of a court for the first day or fraction of the first day
2828 the person is in attendance in court in response to the process; and
2929 (2) $52 [$34] a day for the reimbursement paid under
3030 Section 61.001(a)(2) [61.001] to a person who reports for jury
3131 service in response to the process of a court for each day or
3232 fraction of each day after the first day in attendance in court in
3333 response to the process.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
