7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 85.025(a), Family Code, is amended to |
---|
9 | 9 | | read as follows: |
---|
10 | 10 | | (a) Except as otherwise provided by this section, an order |
---|
11 | 11 | | under this subtitle is effective: |
---|
12 | 12 | | (1) for a [the] period of not less than six months and |
---|
13 | 13 | | not more than two years stated in the order [, not to exceed two |
---|
14 | 14 | | years]; or |
---|
15 | 15 | | (2) if a period is not stated in the order, until the |
---|
16 | 16 | | second anniversary of the date the order was issued. |
---|
17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
---|
18 | 18 | | to a protective order rendered on or after the effective date of |
---|
19 | 19 | | this Act. A protective order rendered before the effective date of |
---|
20 | 20 | | this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the order was |
---|
21 | 21 | | rendered, and the former law is continued in effect for that |
---|
22 | 22 | | purpose. |
---|
23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
