55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the stopping, standing, or parking of a vehicle in a
88 parking space designated as an electric vehicle charging station.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 545.302(a), Transportation Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (a) An operator may not stop, stand, or park a vehicle:
1313 (1) on the roadway side of a vehicle stopped or parked
1414 at the edge or curb of a street;
1515 (2) on a sidewalk;
1616 (3) in an intersection;
1717 (4) on a crosswalk;
1818 (5) between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or
1919 within 30 feet of a place on the curb immediately opposite the ends
2020 of a safety zone, unless the governing body of a municipality
2121 designates a different length by signs or markings;
2222 (6) alongside or opposite a street excavation or
2323 obstruction if stopping, standing, or parking the vehicle would
2424 obstruct traffic;
2525 (7) on a bridge or other elevated structure on a
2626 highway or in a highway tunnel;
2727 (8) on a railroad track; [or]
2828 (9) where an official sign prohibits stopping; or
2929 (10) in a parking space or area that is clearly
3030 designated as an electric vehicle charging station, unless the
3131 operator is driving an electric vehicle, as defined by Section
3232 382.003, Health and Safety Code.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
