66 AN ACT
77 relating to requiring public junior colleges to award course credit
88 to students who hold a Child Development Associate credential.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 130.0107 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 130.0107. CREDIT FOR COMPLETION OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT
1313 ASSOCIATE CREDENTIAL. In accordance with rules adopted by the
1414 Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a public junior college
1515 shall award at least six semester credit hours or the equivalent to
1616 a student enrolled in the junior college who holds a Child
1717 Development Associate (CDA) credential.
1818 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
1919 academic year.
2020 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2121 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2222 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2323 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2424 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
