| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 681.008(b), Transportation Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b) A vehicle on which license plates described by |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Subsection (a)(2) or issued under Section 504.202, 504.308, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 504.310, 504.315, 504.316, 504.3161, or 504.319 are displayed is |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | exempt from the payment of a parking fee collected through a parking |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | meter charged by a governmental authority other than a branch of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | federal government, when being operated by or for the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | transportation of: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) the person who registered the vehicle under |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Section 504.202(a), 504.308, 504.310, 504.315, 504.316, 504.3161, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | or 504.319; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) a person described in Section 504.202(b) if the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | vehicle is registered under that subsection; or |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (3) the owner or operator of a vehicle displaying |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | license plates described by Subsection (a)(2). |

| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
