| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | is amended by adding Section 225.217 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 225.217. PETE AND NELDA LANEY HIGHWAY. (a) |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Notwithstanding Section 225.001(c), the portion of U.S. Highway 87 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in Hale County between its intersection with Farm-to-Market Road |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1914 and its intersection with U.S. Highway 70 is designated as the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Pete and Nelda Laney Highway. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) Subject to Section 225.021(c), the department shall: |

| 18 | 18 | | (1) design and construct markers indicating the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | designation as the Pete and Nelda Laney Highway and any other |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | appropriate information; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) erect a marker at each end of the highway and at |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | appropriate intermediate sites along the highway. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
