| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 92.0563(e), Property Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (e) A justice court may not award a judgment under this |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | section, including an order of repair, that exceeds $20,000 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | [$10,000], excluding interest and costs of court. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Section 92.0563(e), Property Code, as amended by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | this Act, applies only to a cause of action that accrues on or after |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the effective date of this Act. A cause of action that accrues |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | before that date is governed by the law in effect immediately before |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | that date, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
