55 AN ACT
66 relating to compensation and leave for certain security officers or
77 investigators commissioned as peace officers by the comptroller.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 403, Government Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 403.0306 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 403.0306. COMMISSIONED PEACE OFFICERS. The
1212 comptroller shall ensure that a security officer or investigator
1313 commissioned as a peace officer by the comptroller is compensated
1414 according to Schedule C of the position classification salary
1515 schedule prescribed by the General Appropriations Act.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 661.918(a), Government Code, is amended
1717 to read as follows:
1818 (a) This section applies to a peace officer under Article
1919 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, who is commissioned as a law
2020 enforcement officer or agent, including a ranger, by:
2121 (1) the Public Safety Commission and the director of
2222 the Department of Public Safety;
2323 (2) the Parks and Wildlife Commission;
2424 (3) the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission;
2525 (4) the attorney general; [or]
2626 (5) the insurance fraud unit of the Texas Department
2727 of Insurance; or
2828 (6) the comptroller.
2929 SECTION 3. (a) The classification officer in the office of
3030 the state auditor shall classify the position of security officer
3131 or investigator commissioned as a peace officer by the comptroller
3232 as a Schedule C position under the Texas Position Classification
3333 Plan.
3434 (b) The change made by the classification officer as
3535 required by this section applies beginning with the state fiscal
3636 biennium beginning September 1, 2023.
3737 (c) This section expires September 1, 2025.
3838 SECTION 4. Section 661.918(a), Government Code, as amended
3939 by this Act, applies only to an injury that occurs on or after the
4040 effective date of this Act.
4141 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
