55 relating to the regulation of athletic trainers.
66 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
77 SECTION 1. Sections 451.001(1) and (3), Occupations Code,
88 are amended to read as follows:
99 (1) "Athletic injury" means an injury sustained by a
1010 person as a result of physical activity or exercise or the person's
1111 participation in an organized sport or sport-related exercise or
1212 activity, including interscholastic, intercollegiate, intramural,
1313 recreational, semiprofessional, and professional sports
1414 activities.
1515 (3) "Athletic training" means the form of health care
1616 that includes principles and methods for managing and treating
1717 athletic injuries for athletic individuals in good general health
1818 [the practice of preventing, recognizing, assessing, managing,
1919 treating, disposing of, and reconditioning athletic injuries]
2020 under the direction of a physician licensed in this state or another
2121 qualified, licensed health professional who is authorized to refer
2222 for health care services within the scope of the person's license,
2323 and consists of:
2424 (A) managing the risk of an athletic injury or
2525 illness;
2626 (B) preventing an athletic injury or illness;
2727 (C) assessing an athletic injury or illness;
2828 (D) providing immediate emergency care;
2929 (E) providing therapeutic intervention for an
3030 athletic injury; and
3131 (F) reconditioning an athletic injury or
3232 illness.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
