5	5	relating to visitation policies for inmates and state jail felony
6	6	defendants.
7	7	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
8	8	SECTION 1. Section 501.010, Government Code, is amended by
9	9	adding Subsection (b-2) to read as follows:
10	10	(b-2) Regardless of the implementation of video visitation
11	11	or visitation by other electronic means, the uniform visitation
12	12	policy must allow in-person visitation for eligible inmates,
13	13	provided that the policy may allow the temporary suspension of
14	14	in-person visitation for a health or safety emergency.
15	15	SECTION 2. Section 507.030, Government Code, is amended by
16	16	adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
17	17	(c) Regardless of the implementation of video visitation or
18	18	visitation by other electronic means, the visitation policy must
19	19	allow in-person visitation for defendants who are eligible to
20	20	receive visitors, provided that the policy may allow the temporary
21	21	suspension of in-person visitation for a health or safety
22	22	emergency.
23	23	SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
