55 relating to visitation policies for inmates and state jail felony

77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 501.010, Government Code, is amended by
99 adding Subsection (b-2) to read as follows:
1010 (b-2) Regardless of the implementation of video visitation
1111 or visitation by other electronic means, the uniform visitation
1212 policy must allow in-person visitation for eligible inmates,
1313 provided that the policy may allow the temporary suspension of
1414 in-person visitation for a health or safety emergency.
1515 SECTION 2. Section 507.030, Government Code, is amended by
1616 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1717 (c) Regardless of the implementation of video visitation or
1818 visitation by other electronic means, the visitation policy must
1919 allow in-person visitation for defendants who are eligible to
2020 receive visitors, provided that the policy may allow the temporary
2121 suspension of in-person visitation for a health or safety
2222 emergency.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
