| 7 | 7 | | relating to the annual state salary supplement for certain county |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 26.006(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a) A county judge is entitled to an annual salary |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | supplement from the state in an amount equal to 18 percent of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | annual [state base] salary paid to a district judge with comparable |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | years of service as the county judge as set by the General |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Appropriations Act in accordance with Section 659.012 [659.012(a)] |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | if at least 18 percent of the: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) functions that the judge performs are judicial |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | functions; or |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) total hours that the judge works are in the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | performance of judicial functions. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a salary payment for a pay period beginning on or after the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | effective date of this Act. A salary payment for a pay period |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | beginning before the effective date of this Act is governed by the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | law in effect on the date the pay period began, and that law is |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
