| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | is amended by adding Section 504.5111 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sec. 504.5111. RETIRED PEACE OFFICERS. (a) In this |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | section, "retired peace officer" means a person who was formerly |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | employed as a peace officer, as defined by Section 1.07, Penal Code. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) The department shall design and issue specialty license |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | plates for retired peace officers. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (c) There is no fee for the issuance of the license plates. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
