55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the duration of certain protective orders.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Article 7B.007, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
1010 amended by adding Subsection (a-2) to read as follows:
1111 (a-2) The court may issue a protective order effective for
1212 the duration of the lives of the offender and victim if the offender
1313 is not otherwise described by Subsection (a-1) and the victim
1414 requests the issuance of the order.
1515 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
1616 to a protective order issued on or after the effective date of this
1717 Act. A protective order issued before the effective date of this
1818 Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the order was
1919 issued, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2020 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
