| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Article 7B.007, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended by adding Subsection (a-2) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (a-2) The court may issue a protective order effective for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the duration of the lives of the offender and victim if the offender |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | is not otherwise described by Subsection (a-1) and the victim |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | requests the issuance of the order. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to a protective order issued on or after the effective date of this |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Act. A protective order issued before the effective date of this |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the order was |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | issued, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |

| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
