77 relating to periodic occupational cancer screenings for
88 firefighters.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. This Act may be cited as the Wade Cannon Act.
1111 SECTION 2. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended
1212 by adding Section 180.010 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 180.010. OCCUPATIONAL CANCER SCREENING FOR
1414 FIREFIGHTERS. (a) In this section, "firefighter" means an
1515 individual defined as fire protection personnel under Section
1616 419.021, Government Code.
1717 (b) A political subdivision that employs firefighters shall
1818 offer an occupational cancer screening to each firefighter at no
1919 cost to the firefighter in the fifth year of the firefighter's
2020 employment, and once every three years following the initial
2121 screening.
2222 (c) The occupational cancer screening must be confidential
2323 and test for each type of cancer, including:
2424 (1) colorectal cancer;
2525 (2) prostate cancer, if applicable;
2626 (3) lung cancer; and
2727 (4) brain cancer.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
