55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the County Court at Law of Aransas County.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Sections 25.0062(a) and (b), Government Code,
1010 are amended to read as follows:
1111 (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section
1212 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law of Aransas County has
1313 concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in:
1414 (1) family law cases and proceedings; [and]
1515 (2) felony cases to conduct arraignments, conduct
1616 pretrial hearings, and accept guilty pleas; and
1717 (3) civil cases in which the matter in controversy
1818 exceeds the maximum amount provided by Section 25.0003.
1919 (b) The district clerk serves as clerk of a county court at
2020 law in felony cases, in [and] family law cases and proceedings, and
2121 in civil cases in which the matter in controversy exceeds $250,000.
2222 The [and the] county clerk serves as clerk of a county court at law
2323 in all other cases. The district clerk shall establish a separate
2424 docket for a county court at law. The commissioners court shall
2525 provide the deputy clerks, bailiffs, and other personnel necessary
2626 to operate a county court at law.
2727 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
2828 a case filed or proceeding commenced on or after the effective date
2929 of this Act. A case filed or proceeding commenced before the
3030 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
3131 date the case was filed or the proceeding was commenced, and the
3232 former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
