| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 33.905 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sec. 33.905. SOCIAL WORK SERVICES. (a) In this section, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | "social work services" means services specialized to assist |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students and families and designed to alleviate barriers to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | learning, connect the home, the community, and the school, advocate |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for the best interest and academic success of students, strengthen |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | relationships, and assist with basic and psychosocial needs. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) A social worker may provide social work services to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | students and families in a school or district. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (c) A social worker shall collaborate with school |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | administrators and other school professionals in order to enhance |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | students' learning environments. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | school year. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
