| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 13, Water Code, is amended |

| 11 | 11 | | by adding Section 13.152 to read as follows: |

| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 13.152. INITIATION, TRANSFER, OR TERMINATION OF |

| 13 | 13 | | SERVICE. A retail public utility may initiate, transfer, or |

| 14 | 14 | | terminate a customer's retail water or sewer service on receipt of a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | customer request by mail, by telephone, through an Internet |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | website, or through another electronic transmission. |

| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
