55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to whom certain violations of the law by a state or local
88 governmental entity may be reported.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or
1313 terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action
1414 against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of
1515 law by the employing governmental entity or another public employee
1616 to:
1717 (1) the chief administrative officer of the employing
1818 governmental entity;
1919 (2) the inspector general's office of the employing
2020 governmental entity, if any;
2121 (3) the reporting employee's immediate supervisor or
2222 the supervisor of the reporting employee's immediate supervisor at
2323 the employing governmental entity; or
2424 (4) an appropriate law enforcement authority.
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
