7 | 7 | | relating to whom certain violations of the law by a state or local |

8 | 8 | | governmental entity may be reported. |

9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or |
---|
13 | 13 | | terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action |
---|
14 | 14 | | against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of |
---|
15 | 15 | | law by the employing governmental entity or another public employee |
---|
16 | 16 | | to: |
---|
17 | 17 | | (1) the chief administrative officer of the employing |
---|
18 | 18 | | governmental entity; |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) the inspector general's office of the employing |
---|
20 | 20 | | governmental entity, if any; |
---|
21 | 21 | | (3) the reporting employee's immediate supervisor or |
---|
22 | 22 | | the supervisor of the reporting employee's immediate supervisor at |
---|
23 | 23 | | the employing governmental entity; or |
---|
24 | 24 | | (4) an appropriate law enforcement authority. |

25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
