| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.009, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | adding Subsections (a-7) and (a-8) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a-7) The State Board of Education shall review any |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | international baccalaureate course offered for compliance with: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) the school laws of this state; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (2) the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | board. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (a-8) A school district may only offer international |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | baccalaureate courses that comply with: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) the school laws of this state; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | State Board of Education. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. Section 28.051(6), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (6) "International baccalaureate examination" means |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the international baccalaureate examination administered by the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | International Baccalaureate Organization for an international |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | baccalaureate course offered in accordance with Section 28.009. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | school year. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
