55 relating to the requirements to access the online tracker of an
66 application for a ballot to be voted by mail and to the date of
77 runoff elections.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 2.025, Election Code, is amended by
1010 amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (e) to read as
1111 follows:
1212 (a) Except as provided by Subsection (d) or as otherwise
1313 provided by this code, a runoff election shall be held on a Saturday
1414 designated by the secretary of state [not earlier than the 20th or
1515 later than the 45th day after the date the final canvass of the main
1616 election is completed].
1717 (e) A date designated by the secretary of state under this
1818 section for a runoff election:
1919 (1) must be:
2020 (A) not earlier than the 30th day after the date
2121 of the main election; and
2222 (B) not later than the 45th day after the date of
2323 the main election; and
2424 (2) may not:
2525 (A) be a national or state holiday under Section
2626 1.006(f); or
2727 (B) have an early voting period that includes a
2828 national or state holiday under Section 1.006(f).
2929 SECTION 2. Section 86.015(b), Election Code, is amended to
3030 read as follows:
3131 (b) The online tool developed or provided under Subsection
3232 (a) must require the voter to provide, before permitting the voter
3333 to access information described by that subsection:
3434 (1) the voter's name and date of birth [registration
3535 address] and the last four digits of the voter's social security
3636 number; and
3737 (2) the voter's:
3838 (A) driver's license number; or
3939 (B) personal identification card number issued
4040 by the Department of Public Safety.
4141 SECTION 3. Section 2.025(b), Election Code, is repealed.
4242 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
