| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 403.509, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a-1) A portion of the money allocated by the council under | |
| 13 | 13 | Subsection (a)(1)(B) shall be allocated to the Texas Department of | |
| 14 | 14 | Criminal Justice for the purpose of providing programming and | |
| 15 | 15 | treatment to prisoners with a history of opioid addiction. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 17 | 17 | to an allocation of money made on or after the effective date of | |
| 18 | 18 | this Act. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
