| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 37.0812(a), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (a) A school district peace officer or school resource |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | officer shall complete an active shooter response training program |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as required |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | under Section 1701.271, Occupations Code. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | amended by adding Section 1701.271 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Sec. 1701.271. ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE TRAINING PROGRAM. |

| 20 | 20 | | (a) The commission shall approve a training program on appropriate |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and effective law enforcement responses to an active shooter |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | situation. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (b) The commission, by rule, shall require each peace |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | officer to complete a course approved under Subsection (a) at least |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | once in each four-year period. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
