77 relating to Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Week in public schools.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 29.9074 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 29.9074. FENTANYL POISONING AWARENESS WEEK. (a) To
1212 educate students about the dangers posed by the drug fentanyl and
1313 the risks of fentanyl poisoning, including overdose, the governor
1414 shall designate a week to be known as Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness
1515 Week in public schools.
1616 (b) Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Week may include
1717 age-appropriate instruction, including instruction on the
1818 prevention of the abuse of and addiction to fentanyl, as determined
1919 by each school district.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
2121 school year.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
