| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 134.004(b), Education Code, as amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | by Chapters 80 (S.B. 346) and 499 (H.B. 4279), Acts of the 87th |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Legislature, Regular Session, 2021, is reenacted and amended to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b) Grants may be awarded under this chapter from the Jobs |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and Education for Texans (JET) fund: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) to defray the start-up costs associated with the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | development of new career and technical education programs at |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | public junior colleges, public technical institutes, public state |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | colleges, and school districts and open-enrollment charter schools |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | described under Section 134.007 that meet the requirements of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Section 134.006; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) to pay costs for the acquisition, implementation, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and ongoing maintenance of technology solutions necessary to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | support programs described by Subdivision (1). |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Section 134.006(b), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (b) A grant received under this section may be used only: |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (1) to support courses or programs that prepare |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | students for career employment in occupations that are identified |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | by local businesses as being in high demand, including courses |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | offered for dual credit; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (2) to finance initial costs of career and technical |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | education course or program development, including the costs of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | constructing or renovating facilities, purchasing equipment, and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | other expenses associated with the development of a new course; |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | [and] |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | (3) to finance a career and technical education course |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | or program that leads to a license, certificate, or postsecondary |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | degree; and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | (4) to finance the acquisition, implementation, and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | ongoing maintenance of technology solutions necessary to support a |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | course or program described by Subdivision (1), (2), or (3). |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | to a grant awarded on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | SECTION 4. To the extent of any conflict, this Act prevails |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | over another Act of the 88th Legislature, Regular Session, 2023, |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | relating to nonsubstantive additions to and corrections in enacted |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | codes. |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
