| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 461A, Health and Safety |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Code, is amended by adding Section 461A.060 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 461A.060. FENTANYL SUBSTANCE ABUSE EDUCATIONAL |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | MATERIALS. The department shall develop educational materials and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | publish the materials on the department's Internet website to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | educate parents and educators about: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) the dangers of consuming illegally manufactured |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | fentanyl; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) recognizing the symptoms of a person experiencing |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | an opioid overdose; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (3) administering an opioid antagonist, as defined by |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Section 483.101, to a person experiencing an opioid overdose; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (4) recognizing the signs of opioid dependency in an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | adolescent. |

| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall publish |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the educational materials on the department's Internet website as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | required by Section 461A.060, Health and Safety Code, as added by |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | this Act. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
