88 AN ACT
99 relating to a study regarding the cost of child care in this state
1010 in comparison to family income.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. (a) The Texas Workforce Commission shall
1313 conduct a study regarding the cost of child care in this state in
1414 comparison to family income. The study must:
1515 (1) examine:
1616 (A) trends in child-care costs and projections
1717 for future child-care costs;
1818 (B) child-care costs compared to family income,
1919 considering federal poverty guidelines, state median income, or
2020 other relevant income standards; and
2121 (C) the amount of governmental money estimated or
2222 available to support subsidized child care over the periods
2323 applicable to the data described in Paragraphs (A) and (B) of this
2424 subdivision and the number of children receiving subsidized child
2525 care; and
2626 (2) estimate the number of families eligible to
2727 receive subsidized child care.
2828 (b) Not later than December 15, 2024, the Texas Workforce
2929 Commission shall report the results of the study conducted under
3030 Subsection (a) of this section to the governor, the lieutenant
3131 governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and each
3232 legislative standing committee with jurisdiction over child-care
3333 facilities.
3434 (c) This Act expires September 1, 2025.
3535 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
