| 5 | 5 | | relating to training regarding runaway prevention for certain |

| 6 | 6 | | individuals who provide care for children in the conservatorship of |

| 7 | 7 | | the Department of Family and Protective Services. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 264.015, Family Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | adding Subsections (d) and (e) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (d) Each foster parent, prospective adoptive parent, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | relative or other designated caregiver who provide care for |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | children and youth in the conservatorship of the department who are |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 10 years of age or older shall complete a training program on: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) runaway prevention measures; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) proper procedures in the event a child or youth |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | runs away from the provider. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (e) The training under Subsection (d) may be: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) offered to providers who provide care for children |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in the conservatorship of the department who are younger than 10 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | years of age who have a history of running away; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) included as part of existing licensing training |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided by the department or contracted residential child-care |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | providers; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (3) offered in lieu of required training that is not |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | relevant based on the age of the children for whom the person will |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | be providing care. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
