55 relating to the criteria and qualifications for distributions under
66 the rural volunteer fire department assistance program.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 614.102(c), Government Code, is amended
99 to read as follows:
1010 (c) The director shall:
1111 (1) determine reasonable criteria and qualifications
1212 for the distribution of money from the volunteer fire department
1313 assistance fund, including:
1414 (A) the frequency, size, and severity of past
1515 wildfires in a volunteer fire department's jurisdiction;
1616 (B) the potential for loss or damage to property
1717 resulting from future wildfires in the department's jurisdiction;
1818 [and]
1919 (C) the age of the equipment used by the
2020 department; and
2121 (D) the department's need for emergency
2222 assistance under Section 614.103(a-1); and
2323 (2) establish a procedure for reporting and processing
2424 requests for money from the fund.
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
