55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to compensatory time off for certain state employees.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 662.005(b), Government Code, is amended
1010 to read as follows:
1111 (b) Except as provided by Section 662.010, and
1212 notwithstanding Section 659.015 or another law, each of the
1313 following state employees who is required to work on a national or
1414 state holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is entitled to
1515 compensatory time off at the rate of one hour for each hour worked
1616 on the holiday:
1717 (1) an employee of the Department of Family and
1818 Protective Services in the statewide intake division who receives
1919 reports of abuse or neglect;
2020 (2) [a state employee who is] a peace officer
2121 commissioned by a state officer or state agency listed under
2222 Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure;
2323 (3) an employee of the Department of Public Safety
2424 who:
2525 (A) performs [, or who is employed by the
2626 Department of Public Safety either to perform] communications or
2727 dispatch services related to traffic law enforcement; or
2828 (B) is [or as] a public security officer, as that
2929 term is defined by Section 1701.001, Occupations Code; or
3030 (4) an employee of the Parks and Wildlife Department
3131 who performs [, or who is employed by the Parks and Wildlife
3232 Department to perform] communications and dispatch services to
3333 assist law enforcement officers commissioned by the Parks and
3434 Wildlife Commission in performing law enforcement duties [, and who
3535 is required to work on a national or state holiday that falls on a
3636 Saturday or Sunday is entitled to compensatory time off at the rate
3737 of one hour for each hour worked on the holiday].
3838 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
