66 relating to crosswalk marking requirements.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Chapter 544, Transportation Code, is amended by
99 adding Section 544.014 to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 544.014. CROSSWALK MARKING REQUIREMENTS. (a)
1111 Notwithstanding any other law, a local authority shall indicate a
1212 marked crosswalk with one of the following:
1313 (1) solid white lines that are longitudinal,
1414 transverse, or diagonal; or
1515 (2) a Texas-themed mural described by Subsection (b).
1616 (b) A Texas-themed mural authorized by Subsection (a)(2)
1717 must:
1818 (1) completely fill the boundaries of the marked
1919 crosswalk;
2020 (2) have a white, black, or unpainted background; and
2121 (3) feature the shape of the State of Texas, painted in
2222 the manner of the Texas flag.
2323 (c) A municipality with a population of 100,000 or more
2424 shall identify the five intersections that are most used by
2525 pedestrians in the municipality and indicate each marked crosswalk
2626 in those intersections with a Texas-themed mural described by
2727 Subsection (b).
2828 SECTION 2. (a) Notwithstanding Section 544.014(c),
2929 Transportation Code, as added by this Act, a municipality is not
3030 required to comply with that subsection until September 1, 2025.
3131 (b) Not later than September 1, 2025, each municipality with
3232 a population of 100,000 or more shall conduct a study to identify
3333 the five intersections that are most used by pedestrians in the
3434 municipality.
3535 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
