1111 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1212 AN ACT
1313 relating to the authority of certain municipalities to use hotel
1414 occupancy tax revenue for certain venue projects.
1515 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1616 SECTION 1. Section 334.0082, Local Government Code, is
1717 amended by adding Subsections (d) and (e) to read as follows:
1818 (d) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) and subject to this
1919 subsection, this section also applies to a municipality that has a
2020 population of at least 70,000 but not more than 180,000 and that is
2121 located in a county that borders the United Mexican States and the
2222 Gulf of Mexico. A municipality described by this subsection may
2323 impose a tax as authorized under Subsection (b)(2) only to finance a
2424 convention center constructed before January 1, 2023. The
2525 authority of the municipality to impose the tax as authorized under
2626 Subsection (b)(2) expires on the earlier of:
2727 (1) the date the debt issued for the convention center
2828 described by this subsection is repaid; or
2929 (2) January 1, 2054.
3030 (e) Subsection (d) and this subsection expire January 1,
3131 2054.
3232 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
